OUTCOME: Of course, and that great cover of PREMIERE. Finding these guys is so difficult and there really isn't anyone in the current batch of whatever I'd like to interview. Most are dim witted, dull, money hungry hustlers. They do everything explicit but nothing sensual. The guys who posed from 1950 to the very early 70s had something special about them. They were more stable and intelligent, on the whole and posed for fun not to make a career out of it.

MEL: Very few of my models were hustlers, though some might have done so at one time or another. Most were just people I met and knew and just invited to participate. They never thought that much about it.

OUTCOME: It was also the 60s and everyone was open and more interested in posing & having a good time.

MEL: And most knew they weren't going to make a career out of it. It wasn't anything they could really rely on for a livelihood.

OUTCOME: Which is how it should be looked at. Too many today think the bucks will go on forever. By the time the truth dawns they've wasted a big chunk of their life. Try putting hustler, nude model or porn star on a resume or job application.

MEL: I always made it as enjoyable as I could, esp. for models that I liked. I took them on 2-3 day trips. We'd go off to Yosemite, go up to Idlewild up in the mountains and visit friends and stay there. A couple times we went down to LaJolla and San Diego, so I made it an enjoyable experience as well as just work for them. I think they liked that.

OUTCOME: Do you remember much about DANNY ALBERT? He was another of my favorites. He also worked under the name JIM BURKE.

MEL: He was married.

OUTCOME: Was he?

MEL: Not only that but one time his wife caught he & I in bed together during a photo session. I had to go out through the bathroom window., that was really weird.

OUTCOME: Under the JIM BURKE name he worked for a few photographers.

MEL: Yeah, he did. But the last I heard he moved up north.

It ends here. After this OUTCOME did an interview with Mel about Jay Howard. We've let Mel know that if he ever wants to discuss his career and models more we'll be happy to add more pages. I'm sure you'd all like that, not as much as you'd like to give Sean Patrick a tongue bath but you take what you get.
